Eighteen Greek wineries, including three from Santorini, will participate in the Greekwineday 2023, the largest Greek wine-tasting event in Italy. On November 10th, they will converge in Florence to showcase more than 80 Greek wines to Italian wine enthusiasts.
The idea for Greekwineday was born several years ago after the first successful tastings of Greek wines organized, on a smaller scale, by Charis Papandreou in Florence with the support of the Honorary Consul of Greece in Florence, Peggy Petrakakou.
The first Greekwineday took place in 2021 but under different circumstances due to the pandemic. At that time, 22 Greek wines were presented in 19 Italian restaurants, ten of which held at least one Michelin star. Since then, the concept of Greekwineday has evolved, with contributions from FISAR Firenze (Federazione Italiana Sommelier Albergatori Ristoratori), leading to its current form.
This year marks the second Greekwineday, with the dual aim of promoting Greek wine and establishing a day dedicated to Greek wine production in Italy. Behind the traditional tasting booths, Greek producers will share the secrets of their wines and lead enthusiasts on an intoxicating journey of knowledge and enjoyment.
The event will be attended by Italian Master of Wine Gabriele Gorelli, wine importers, renowned journalists, owners of famous Tuscan restaurants, and other key figures in the wine community. Greek chef Stelios Sakalis of the Michelin-starred Il Piovano restaurant will also be present.
The 18 participating wineries are: Arlekinon Chora (Larissa), Diamantakis Winery (Crete), Zafeirakis Estate (Tyrnavos), Dougos Winery (Itea), Mitrakou Winery (Nemea), Gotsis Winery (Messinia), Hatzidakis Winery (Santorini), Karimali Winery (Ikaria), Kappa Estate (Naoussa), Kyr Yanni Estate (Naoussa), Mouson Estate (Viotia), OenoP Paris Sigalas (Santorini), Oenops Wines (Drama), Papargyriou Winery (Corinth), Sarri Winery (Kefalonia), Strofilia Estate (Nemea), Vakakis Winery (Samos), Venetsanos Winery (Santorini).
