At least six Aussies of Greek heritage make up the top 100 rich people under 40 list.
At least six Greek Australians under the age of 40 make up Australia’s 100 richest young people in 2023, doubling last year’s number.
Australian Financial Review (AFR) have released their 20th annual Young Rich List, and well-known Adelaide-based Kayla Itsines continues to feature, ranking at 42.
The personal trainer co-founded fitness app Sweat in 2014 with her former fiancé Tobi Pearce, who ranked 46.
She is the face of the app, which has over one million users, and remains its head trainer after she and Pearce sold it to US-based iFit in 2021.
The deal was worth $400 million and following their separation, a number of properties are now in ownership of companies under Itsines.
The 32-year-old saw a 3.6 per cent year-on-year change that saw her wealth rise from $165m to $171m this year.
The most notable of new retail arrivals on the list are Daniel and Georgia Contos, with the married couple ranking at 62 and 63.
Both are behind White Fox Boutique, an online fashion store, that many may recognise for its ads of models all over buses in Sydney.
Daniel, 33, and Georgia, 32, started selling on eBay in 2013 and have grown over the last decade to viral popularity, with many celebrities wearing their clothing.
The couple have been in the news over the last two years for the $60m worth of property they’ve purchased.
With showrooms in Sydney and Los Angeles, their wealth is combined at $100m but many say that is an underestimate.
Another new duo on the Young Rich List, but this time siblings, is Argylica and William Conditsis.
The brother and sister founded Babyboo, a women’s event wear designer founded in Sydney.
Employing 45 people and making more than half its revenue from the US, the company originated when Argylica was 17 years old and desperate to find a pair of heels for a night out.
She ended up making her own bedazzled pair, and decided to start making more, selling on Facebook and it was on from there.
They eventually gained international traction, and the name comes from her then boyfriend (now husbands) nickname for her.
The pandemic saw event wear sales drop for obvious reasons, but they managed to survive by going into loungewear.
William was convinced to help her run the business one year into a uni course, and the two now have an estimated combined worth of $60m.
PlaySide Studios co-founders Aaron Pasias, ranked 95, and Gerry Sakkas, ranked 99, both return to the list, after both being ranked together last year.
Australia’s largest video game developer and publisher, based in Port Melbourne, Playside develop games mainly for mobile.
In 2021, they purchased the Dumb Ways To Die franchise, famous from the Victorian rail safety commercial, and has used it as a launching pad into new areas.
The company was born when Sakkas, then lead designer for Electronic Arts (EA), decided he was going to live his dream of running his own studio.
Using a redundancy payment, he got when EA shut its Melbourne arm, he sought out his friend Pasias to help set up.
Pasias, 38, ranks higher for his commercial property portfolio as a property investor, with both having a wealth of $56m last year.
Sakkas is now at $43m and Pasias, $49m.
