Athens bar employee attacked by patrons
An employee at the Roadhouse on Lumpkin Street was physically attacked by a family of “rowdy and disrespectful” patrons as she attempted to escort them out of the bar on Friday night, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police Department report.
The issue began when the father reached his hand into the tip jar. The employee confronted him and he said he was retrieving a shot glass that had fallen in. The employee apologized and the pair shook hands, the report said.
After, the family became angry, using profane gestures and language, at which point the employee told them they needed to leave, according to the report. As she was escorting them out, the father and son began to taunt her and the son grabbed her waist.
At that point, the whole family started coming after her, the employee said, pulling her clothes and going for her eyes and throat. Eventually, the employee got the family out and called for police assistance, but the family left the premises before the police arrived.

The next day, the son messaged the Roadhouse Instagram saying that his mother had been injured in the altercation and that if the employee didn’t apologize and pay the mother’s medical bills, they would take her to court. The employee provided officers with images of these messages, as well as images of her injuries, the report said. The employee spoke with an attorney and is seeking a warrant.
Drunk driver flips car
A drunk driver got into a crash that resulted in his vehicle flipping on Springdale Street on Friday night, according to an ACCPD report.
When officers arrived, the vehicle was on its roof, but the driver had gotten himself out and was walking around, unhurt, the report said. Officers noticed that he was responding and moving slowly and smelled of alcohol. Initially, he told officers that he hadn’t had anything to drink and was coming from downtown, but later admitted to having had one White Claw.
The driver agreed to participate in some voluntary tests to see if he was safe to operate a vehicle. Based on the results, officers arrested him for DUI and failure to maintain lane.
Motor scooter stolen from in front of Dollar Tree
A man’s red motor scooter was stolen from in front of Dollar Tree on Lexington Road on Friday, according to an ACCPD report.
The man had gone into the store for approximately 10-15 minutes to shop. When he came out, his scooter was gone. He was unsure how it could have been taken, as he had the keys with him and had locked the steering wheel before going into the store, the report said.
Neither Dollar Tree nor a gas station across the street had any cameras pointing at the area that could have picked up footage of the theft.
