Turkish Cypriot authorities have announced the continuation of road construction plans aimed at linking the ethnically mixed Pyla village in the buffer zone with the mainland, following a recent altercation with United Nations (U.N.) peacekeeping forces in the region. The death toll has risen to 59 following the capsizing of a fishing boat carrying refugees and migrants off southwestern Greece, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported on Wednesday, citing local authorities. Three people died and 12 went missing after a boat carrying an unknown number of refugees and migrants capsized off Mykonos island in the Aegean Sea, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported on Friday. Two people have been rescued as a total of 17 people were reported on board, said ERT, citing Hellenic Coast Guard sources, adding that a search and rescue operation was underway. Greece has evacuated over 50 of its citizens and their family members from the Sudanese capital Khartoum amid military clashes, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday. The first group of evacuees has now arrived in Athens. The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged governments and civil society to work together to ensure cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid between Türkiye and Syria and within Syria itself. The WHO’s Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, called the earthquakes “the worst natural disaster” in the region in a century, and emphasized the importance of all parties cooperating on aid delivery. “The needs are huge, increasing by the hour. The Bangladeshi government has declared one- day state mourning Thursday for the deaths in earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The Bangladeshi Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard Wednesday. The national flag will be hoisted at half-mast atop office buildings of all government, semi-government, autonomous organizations, educational institutions and Bangladeshi missions abroad.
