ATHENS —As Israel steps up its siege of Gaza and the likelihood of a prolonged conflict grows, Greece is bracing for a new influx of illegal migrants. The country’s top migration official warns the latest violence will add to a surge of migrants that U.N. data say is already led by Palestinians. Greek migration minister Dimitris Keridis warned that even before the outbreak of hostilities between Hamas and Israel, Greece had already been facing the biggest surge in illegal migrant inflows in recent years. Keridis said, “as if the multitude of flashpoints in northern Africa and Syria were not pushing…
Nimclinic being founded by Dr Musa Yetim has been the most popular hair transplant clinic in Turkey recently. Turkey has been shown as the world’s most important place in hair transplant applications for a very long time. However, not all hair transplant clinics that have been hosting their visitors in Turkey provide services at the same quality standards. Nimclinic, being one of the most favourite hair transplant clinics in Turkey recently, has managed to attract remarkable attention through its operations with a high success rate. Having hosted thousands of patients from different parts of Europe, the clinic has been standing…
The outlook of the Greek real estate market remains positive, despite any new challenges arising, boosted by the performance of the economy which recently regained the investment grade and political stability in the country, ANA reports. However, there were fundamental issues to be resolved that could create an even more friendly environment for investors in the real estate market, such as regulatory and tax issues. That was the joint conclusion reached by real estate market executives participating in a round table dialogue during the 24th Prodexpo Congress. In the discussion that preceded the opening of the congress, high-ranking officials of…

On Oct. 15, hundreds of Turkey’s Assyrian Syriac Christians gathered in Istanbul’s leafy Yeşilköy neighborhood to witness the inauguration of Mor Ephrem Syriac Orthodox Church, the community’s first new church in more than a century. A generation ago, the vision of building a new Syriac Christian church in Istanbul would have been a fantasy. One of the oldest branches of the church, Syriac Orthodox Christianity still uses a dialect of Aramaic, the language of Jesus and his disciples, for its liturgy. “We’re a very ancient people, a Mesopotamian people,” said Katia Arslan, an Assyrian who studies Turkey’s minority peoples. But…
The delivery of gas from Turkmenistan to foreign markets through Türkiye has acquired strategic importance in the current geopolitical conditions, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a press conference in Ankara after negotiations with the leader of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Azernews reports, citing the Turkish media. “In the current situation, the delivery of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Türkiye and through it to world markets has acquired a separate strategic importance. In this regard, our cooperation is important both in a bilateral format with Turkmenistan and in a trilateral format with the connection of Azerbaijan to this mechanism,” President…
The 2024 Turkish Presidential Annual Program, published on Oct. 25 in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey, aims to finalize crypto regulations in the country within the calendar year of 2024. Article 400.5 of the almost 500-page document reveals the planned studies to define crypto assets, which might be taxed appropriately afterward. Crypto asset providers, such as crypto exchanges, will also be given a legal definition. However, the document contains no other details on the future regulations. In September 2023, the former CEO of Turkish crypto exchange Thodex, Faruk Fatih Özer, was sentenced to 11,196 years in prison…
Make your trip to Mykonos more sustainable by travelling in shoulder seasons like autumn instead and be rewarded with an experience of the real, wild side of the island. I’m standing at a scrubbed wooden table grating cucumber for tzatziki with a view of a manicured vegetable plot and a soundtrack of bleating goats. It’s probably not the image that typically comes to mind when you think about a holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos. The Cycladic hotspot is renowned for its buzzing beach clubs of bacchanalian festivities and jam-packed, whitewashed town centres. But many local residents and businesses…
Driving down the mountain from Gaziantep on the road to the Hatay region, a large valley opens up with clear, checkered patterns of farms onions ready for harvest, olive groves and other crops. Across the valley is the mountain range we will follow the rest of the way to our destination, central Hatay. The mountains sit above the East Anatolian Fault, where tectonic plates miles below the earth’s surface caused the 7.8 and 7.5 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in February of this year, resulting in more than 50,000 deaths and displacing more than three million people. Both countries have…
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a one-day visit on Monday to Azerbaijan’s autonomous Nakhchivan exclave upon the invitation of his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev. Erdogan and Aliyev will discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues, particularly the recent developments in Karabakh, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said on Sunday. The leaders are expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Igdir-Nakhchivan natural gas pipeline and inaugurate the modernized Nakhchivan military complex. Ankara and Baku agreed in 2020 to supply natural gas from Türkiye to Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in a memorandum of understanding. The new 85-kilometer-long gas…
