President Volodymyr Zelensky, at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Kyiv, said that he expects a package of security guarantees for Ukraine to be adopted at the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius.
“We need something more than the current format of relations. We want to understand when Ukraine will be in NATO. We want security guarantees along this path. At the same time, we are not preparing an alternative to membership. We will be in the Alliance. A package of guarantees along this path is this is what we would like to approve in Vilnius. For our part, we will prepare everything for sure,” Zelensky said.
Earlier, representatives of NATO countries stated that the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance could be considered only after the end of the war.
Also, according to Zelensky, he discussed with Stoltenberg tomorrow’s meeting in the Ramstein format, where military assistance to Ukraine should be discussed.
“I turned to the Secretary General with a request to help us overcome the restraint of partners in the supply of long-range weapons, modern aviation, artillery, armored vehicles,” Zelensky said.
Recall, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Kyiv on April 20. This is his first visit to Ukraine since the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
