MOSCOW – The Polish authorities have proposed to ban the import of not only grain, but also other products from Ukraine, the RMF FM radio station reported , citing sources in Brussels.”Poland wants to include soft fruits, eggs, poultry, sugar and honey in this list,” the publication says.
Four European states – Poland, Hungary , Slovakia and Bulgaria have introduced a temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian grain and other products of plant and animal origin from April 22. We are talking about goods entering the common market without duties.
As RMF FM’s interlocutors noted, each country has its own specific wishes. For example, Bulgaria wants to add flour and butter to the list, while Hungary wants poultry, honey and flour.
The EC will propose to adjust the import of grain to the EU countries neighboring UkraineApril 19, 17:48The issue will be discussed next week by EU agriculture ministers, and the sources say that “if there is no quick agreement, negotiations at a higher political level are not ruled out.
Earlier, in a letter to the President of the European Commission ( EC ) Ursula von der Leyen , the prime ministers of the mentioned countries indicated that due to a significant increase in supplies from Ukraine, “there was an unprecedented increase in imports” of grains, oilseeds, poultry, sugar, apple juice, berries, honey, flour and pasta. This has a negative impact on local farmers. Thus, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture announced the loss of about a third of income. In addition, the National Food Chain Safety Authority found cases of mycotoxin contamination of Ukrainian corn, and several samples tested positive for GMOs.
The situation also affected Romania , where the flows of Ukrainian goods were redirected. As Minister of Agriculture Petre Daya said the day before, the EC is asking the initiators of the ban to “cancel the illegal decision.” Its illegality, as Daya noted with reference to the vice-president of the executive body of the European Union Valdis Dubrovskis, is in contradiction to the association agreements between Ukraine and the EU. At the same time, Budapest was able to agree with the EC on the possibility of maintaining the embargo.
