The Fort Bragg Food Bank has launched Turkey Challenge, its annual Thanksgiving fundraiser. The event has two avenues for donations to help ease the hunger burden during the upcoming holiday.

Food assistance at Thanksgiving has a long history in American society. The Turkey Challenge guidelines add a spark that brings together local businesses and the community at large. Many groups sponsor a community turkey-giving event for direct donations of actual turkeys.

The Fort Bragg Food Bank event raises the ante with the word “challenge.” Anyone can donate to the Turkey Challenge in two different ways. The first avenue involves contributing to a pledge made by local businesses to match every individual community donation of $200 or more up to a matching total of $25,000.

Reaching this goal would provide the Food Bank with $50,000 for Thanksgiving food for those in need. Donors may choose to give any dollar amount they wish with the guarantee that the donation will go into the Thanksgiving fund. Donations can be made in person, by mail, or on the Food Bank’s website. Donations will be accepted through Friday, December 1.

The second avenue for donations is a donation at any check-out station at Harvest Market, located at Highways 1 and 20 in The Boatyard. Inform the employee that you would like to donate to the Turkey Challenge and how much you wish to give. The employee will enter a code reflecting what portion of your check-out total is a donation. This method will be accepted until just prior to Thanksgiving Day.

All donations will be used for the purchase of turkeys. By bargaining with their own food suppliers, The Fort Bragg Food Bank can extract more value from a donated dollar than any donor who gave the Food Bank a self-purchased turkey.

To donate directly to the Fort Bragg Food Bank, you can stop by in person at their location at 910 North Franklin Street, Fort Bragg. You can mail in your donation to The Fort Bragg Food Bank, PO Box 70, Fort Bragg, CA 95437. You may also donate via their website: FortBraggFoodBank.org.
