Jessika Jones and Yelda Ahari, both natives of Athens, were selected for two separate exclusive leadership programs at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) College of Business.

Jessika Jones, a 2021 graduate of Athens High School, was selected to serve as a college of business ambassador. Through this exclusive leadership program, selected business students have the opportunity to practice their leadership and professionalism by representing the college at student, community and recruitment events. These student leaders are knowledgeable about the college, are highly involved on campus and demonstrate academic excellence. The ambassadors also have the unique opportunity to attend exclusive leadership programs with community leaders to expand their professional network.

“What I enjoy most about being a College of Business ambassador is being able to interact with other business students. I love getting to know people and offering a helping hand when I can, and the ambassador program allows me to meet students and provide them with help or guidance at events,” said Jones.

Yelda Ahari, a 2023 graduate of Athens Renaissance School, was selected for the college’s exclusive Emerging Business Leaders (EBL) program. The EBL program is a cohort-based leadership program for selected first-year UAH business students. Throughout the program, students have the opportunity to work with other high-achieving business students to grow their leadership and professional networking skills, which will serve them well in their career development. Students chosen for the program also received a $500 scholarship.

“I just love being an emerging business leader because I have gotten to meet a lot of great people, and learn skills that can ‘take me further’ in the workplace. Shout-out to Mrs. Haynes, Mrs. Pettitt, and the Youth Leadership Development Program for helping me get this far and giving me a chance,” said Ahari.

“Our purpose is to grow the leaders of tomorrow who can help businesses and organizations navigate challenges and realize opportunities,” College of Business Dean, Dr. Jason Greene said. “Both of these programs represent our investment in this important purpose.”

He added, “We are excited to have each one of these students in our business program here at UAH and proud to see their commitment and enthusiasm to develop and grow as leaders.”

Current high school seniors interested in applying to the 2024 – 2025 Emerging Business Leaders program can apply during the spring by visiting uah.edu/business/orgs/emerging-business-leaders.

The selection process for the Emerging Business Leaders program includes meeting a minimum high school GPA requirement, completing an online application and being selected by a panel of college faculty and staff.
