State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Hon. Geetha Kumarasinghe was appointed as the President of the Sri Lanka – Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association recently (08).
The inaugural meeting of the Sri Lanka – Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association for the Ninth Parliament was held in Parliament and was chaired by the Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka His Excellency Maged Mosleh
was present as the guest of honor. Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapaksa, several Members of Parliamentand the Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera were also present at this meeting.
Members of Parliament Hon. Madhura Withanage, Hon. Hector Appuhami and Hon. Aravinda Kumar were appointed as Vice Presidents of the Friendship Association. Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapaksa was appointed as Secretary while Member of Parliament Hon. Karunadasa Kodithuwakku as Assistant Secretary. Member of Parliament Hon. Mohomad Muzammil was appointed as the Treasurer to the Sri Lanka Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association.
Addressing the gathering Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that he is happy to be able to establish the Parliamentary Friendship Association between the two countries in line with the 66th anniversary of Sri Lanka-Egypt diplomatic relations. Speaker pointed out that Sri Lanka-Egypt relations can be further developed through this friendship association.
Egyptian Ambassador to Sri Lanka His Excellency Maged Mosleh congratulated the newly appointed officials and emphasized that he hopes to develop the existing friendship between the two countries in various fields.
Speaking at the meeting, the newly appointed President of the Sri Lanka-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Association, State Minister Hon. Geetha Kumarasinghe, extended her gratitude for being elected as the President of the Friendship Association. She said that she expects to strengthen relations with Egypt, a country with a rich history, art and industries. Also, the President commended the commitment of the Egyptian Ambassador in Sri Lanka to the development of relations between the two countries.
